onAI — Legal

Last updated: April 2026

1. Overview

onAI is a macOS menu bar utility that transforms text using AI. Privacy is a core design principle: we collect as little data as possible, and your text is never sent anywhere without your explicit opt-in.

2. Information We Collect

Purchase information. When you subscribe or make a one-time purchase, Apple and RevenueCat process the transaction. We receive only an anonymous identifier — never your name, email address, or payment details.

Apple Search Ads attribution. If you discovered onAI through an Apple Search Ad, anonymous attribution data may be shared with RevenueCat for analytics. This data cannot identify you personally.

Nothing else. We do not use analytics SDKs, crash reporters, session recording tools, or any form of behavioral or device tracking.

3. How Your Text Is Processed

onAI offers three AI modes. Choose the one that matches your privacy needs:

On-Device — Apple Intelligence: Your text is processed entirely on your Mac by Apple's on-device framework. Nothing is sent anywhere — not to Apple, not to us. Requires Apple Intelligence to be enabled in System Settings.

Local — Ollama: Your text is sent to a locally running Ollama server on your Mac. It never leaves your machine. Requires Ollama to be installed and running separately.

Cloud — opt-in: If you choose to connect a cloud provider (such as OpenAI or Anthropic), selected text is sent to that provider's servers using your own API key. You will be asked to confirm this once before cloud mode activates. You can switch back to on-device or local AI at any time in Settings → Models.

Important: A subscription to onAI unlocks the app and all on-device AI features — including Apple Intelligence and local models via Ollama. Cloud AI requires your own API key from the respective provider (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) and is not included in the subscription.

4. Your API Keys

Any cloud AI API keys you enter are stored locally on your Mac only, using secure local storage. They are never transmitted to our servers. API keys are sent only to the cloud provider you configured when that provider is actively used.

5. Accessibility Permission

onAI requires Accessibility access to read the text you select in other applications and to replace text where supported. This permission is granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

We only access text at the exact moment you invoke a transformation — we never monitor your screen, log keystrokes, or read text passively in the background.

6. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the following third parties:

We may also share information to comply with legal requirements, protect our rights, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (with notice to users).

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:

While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We recommend not entering highly sensitive information (passwords, financial data) into any AI tool.

8. Data Retention

We do not store any user data on our servers. Subscription status is managed by RevenueCat and Apple. All app preferences and API keys live on your Mac only. You may request deletion of any data we hold by contacting us at koszhanov.tilek@icloud.com.

9. International Data Transfers

When using Cloud AI mode, your selected text is sent to the provider you configured (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic), whose servers are typically located in the United States. This transfer occurs using your own API key and is subject to that provider's privacy policy. On-device (Apple Intelligence) and local (Ollama) modes involve no international data transfers.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

To exercise these rights, contact us at koszhanov.tilek@icloud.com.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us at koszhanov.tilek@icloud.com.

12. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data based on contractual necessity (to provide the app services) and legitimate interests (to manage subscriptions). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have violated your privacy rights.

13. Children's Privacy

onAI is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us at koszhanov.tilek@icloud.com and we will delete it promptly.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available here and in the app under Settings → Privacy Policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

1. The App

onAI is a macOS menu bar utility that uses AI to transform selected text. By using onAI, you agree to these terms. It is available as a monthly subscription, yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase — all processed by Apple.

2. Subscription & Billing

Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from System Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the next renewal date.

Moving to a new Mac? Use "Restore Purchases" in onAI Settings to transfer your entitlement to the new device. The previous device will lose access on its next check.

One active Mac per subscription or lifetime purchase. This is enforced automatically via Apple's receipt system.

3. What the Subscription Includes

Your subscription or lifetime purchase unlocks the onAI app and all on-device AI features — including Apple Intelligence and local models via Ollama. It does not include:

Cloud AI features require a separate API key from the chosen provider, paid directly to that provider under their own terms.

4. How the AI Works

On-Device — Apple Intelligence: Runs entirely on your Mac. Private, free, and offline. Requires Apple Intelligence to be enabled in System Settings. Response speed depends on your Mac's workload and thermal state.

Local — Ollama: Runs AI locally via a server on your Mac. Requires Ollama to be installed and running. Performance varies by the model you choose and your hardware.

Cloud — your API key: Sends selected text to the provider you configure using your own API key. Typically delivers the fastest, highest-quality results. Requires a valid, funded API key from the chosen provider.

5. Refunds

Refunds follow Apple's standard App Store refund policy. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Please note: AI availability and response quality are not grounds for a refund, as these depend on factors outside the app — including whether Apple Intelligence is enabled on your device, your internet connection, the quality of your API key, or the performance of a third-party provider. All of these can be evaluated before purchasing.

6. Accessibility Permission

onAI requires Accessibility permission to read selected text and replace it in other applications. Without it, the core functionality of the app cannot work. This permission can be granted or revoked at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree to use onAI responsibly and lawfully. In particular, you must not:

8. AI Output Disclaimer

AI-generated text is produced automatically and may contain errors, inaccuracies, or unintended content. You are responsible for reviewing output before using it in any important context. We are not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated content.

9. Limitation of Liability

onAI is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to data loss, service interruption, or reliance on AI output.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The latest version is always available here and in the app under Settings → Terms of Use. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, without regard to conflict of law principles.
